I am so delighted to share with you a few new resources that have crossed my desk (and some very happy details about our work here in NH).
Ready NH is a new site dedicated to aiding NH with emergency preparedness. I encourage you to use this when assisting refugee families and teaching "safety lessons."
We are so excited to learn that R&P (Reception and Placement) funding was increased by the federal government as of January 1st! R&P money helps New American Services prepare for the arrival of a refugee family; it supplies funds for housing, groceries, pocket money plus any furniture or household supplies we are unable to solicit through donations. We are thrilled this increase will help us serve the needs of our clients!
Want to learn more about the rights of refugees to have interpreters available at specific appointments? Learn more by checking out Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 on the U.S. Department of Justice website.
Being Muslim in America- book of photo essays about Muslim life in American; may be of interest to both refugee clients and volunteers!
Life Skills for Burundian Refugees, Vol. 2
I am happy to learn that our "temporary" caseworker (assisting case management staff with utility hook-ups and school registration for newcomers) is with us for another three months. We're thrilled to have her on board for an extra few months (she is also a fantastic cook!).
Additionally, we're recruiting new volunteers with a specific focus on churches and other "pre-existing social groups." We welcome book clubs, Bible study groups, civic organizations and the like to join us in our commitment to assist NH refugees. Please contact Abby at (603) 224-8111 if you are interested!
